Root Canal Therapy
Why Get a Root Canal?
Root canal treatment is a routine dental procedure used to address issues with the soft inner layer of teeth. A specialist dentist typically performs this treatment to relieve any associated discomfort, prevent further damage to the tooth, and save its existence.
A root canal may be necessary when the nerve within a tooth has been compromised due to deep decay or trauma. Untreated infection could spread and harm surrounding structures such as jawbones. A root canal will restore tooth and area health by protecting both.
Signs You May Require a Root Canal
Root canal therapy could be necessary if you experience tooth pain, sore and swollen gums, darkened teeth, or any discomfort when hot or cold foods touch them. Such symptoms indicate the inner workings of your tooth are likely infected or inflamed and need to be addressed ASAP.
What Causes Tooth Nerve Damage
Cavities, chipped teeth, cracked fillings, and injuries to teeth can damage their inner structures and cause pain and inflammation of the nerve. When decay, bad fillings, or cracks remain unattended, bacteria can gain entry and infiltrate the nerve, inflicting pain and inflammation. Invading and infiltrating it with their pathogens can also cause pain and swelling to develop over time.
Why are Root Canals Essential
When nerves in a tooth die, its health can quickly decline, potentially becoming infected and leading to bone destruction or tooth loss without treatment. A root canal helps keep teeth intact by maintaining healthful nerve pathways while treating any infections that arise – something a non-root canal dentist cannot. A successful root canal keeps a tooth safe while halting any issues before they occur!
How a Root Canal Works
The process of having a root canal involves four main steps: checking, numbing, cleaning, and sealing. Your dentist will look over X-rays of the area before administering anesthesia in the affected region, extracting an infected nerve, cleaning the inside of your tooth thoroughly to prevent future infection, sealing it to stop future outbreaks, and placing a crown to make the tooth functional again.
Possible Risks
It is normal to experience discomfort after treatment; pain medicine can provide relief. Delaying receiving your crown could result in new infections developing over time. Although rare, problems such as broken teeth, cracked roots, or missed canals may arise. If treatment doesn’t work as planned, your dentist might recommend another course of action, such as tooth extraction
